I’ve been ruthlessly analyzing how I connect and serve people. Assessing the daily activities for what moves the needle has been eye-opening. Sometimes, great plans become monotonously and thoughtlessly ineffective.
Business is about allocating the right resources on the right opportunities. This is why you have to be thoughtful, strategic and CLEAR when making a change to the business. Start with:
- The problem I’m trying to solve…
- The impact it will have…
Then ask, “Is this the most important problem to solve now?” In a world of finite resources, you can’t solve every problem the minute you recognize it.

Had a client lose a solid 6 figure bid. Sucks. Thoughts:
- You shouldn’t win every bid. You’re priced too low if you do.
- Make an effort to be the “Intelligent #2.” Projects go sideways all the time.
- Ask how you could improve your bid or qualifications.
Learn. Tweak. Iterate.
Win the next one.

Don’t shoulder the load yourself. Ask your company, “What have we missed in how we can drive more revenue?”
People closest to the customers have the best insights. Listen.
