I cried 25 years ago today.
Weird thing to remember, right?
Well, today marks the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s legendary 900 on the half pipe at the X Games.
I stood in front of the TV, mesmerized by his relentless effort.
Time after time after time, he failed.
I jumped up and down with excitement and disappointment after each attempt. I could not believe the progressive look of intensity on his face.
Tony said later, “I was either going to make it or get taken away in an ambulance. Those were the only two ends to the evening for me.”
🤯 “Every time, it was more about fighting with myself and convincing myself that I could do it.”
And on a sweltering hot day in June, on attempt eleven, the Babe Ruth of skateboarding did something no one else had ever done. He landed the 900.
I cried tears of inspiration. Tony embodied grit and determination in a way I had never seen… it cost him years of trying and a few teeth. But he did it.
In real-time, Tony taught me that the “impossible” is always within your reach.
Made me think: The challenge you’re facing is almost never the problem.
It’s almost always your mind.
What are you doing to upgrade your mindset? “Impossible” is just on the other side…
