I’m talking with leaders who are reflecting hard on 2023 and planning for 2024. The last 60 days centered around upgrading the talent inside the organization to achieve bigger goals.
Fact: It’s the 6s and 7s that suck the life out of you. They’re not inept enough to immediately fire. And they’re not good enough to get you where you want to go. Meh.
Made Me Think: My conversations with Matt, Rachel, and Lindsay are right. The greatest gift you can give your people is the discipline to hire more 10s. You can’t surround a thoroughbred with a bunch of donkeys and expect good things.
• I did a strategic plan last week for a company that’s grown from 13->32MM in 2 years. Got me thinking about winning companies.
Yes, they have an innovative product. But that’s not the only thing.
From my seat, companies that win big REGULARLY challenge assumptions and change constraints.
Companies that stall won’t make hard decisions and clutch onto sunk costs (people, systems, processes, or approaches) that don’t serve them.
Financial and human capital are resources to solve big company opportunities. You choose where to deploy them. If your hypothesis was initially wrong, change it. Otherwise, you’ll accept the status quo – and all that comes with it. 💩
Made Me Think: How do we instill a “Challenger Mindset” inside every company? It’s annoying but necessary.
What constraints and assumptions are you accepting as true?
How’s it working out for you? 🤷♂️
• Stress doesn’t make good decisions.
Reminder: Care for yourself in the end-of-year sprint + holidays. 🙏
