I spent the first part of the week in St Augustine doing a strategic plan with Q-Pac. It was magical. Certainly, it was the most effective quarterly plan we’ve done so far. Why? The rhythm with the leadership team and the clarity we’ve created previously make the flywheel, well, fly!
Here’s what I was learning and thinking about this week:
- Everyone has a data problem. Some people just don’t know it.
- Setting the “what” of goals is easy. Real leadership happens when you partner on the “what” and help determine the “how” of achieving those goals. Any effort other than this puts you in Lazy Leadership La-La Land.
- As a leader, your responsibility is to create alignment and clarity. I’ve found that Quarterly Strategic Planning is the most effective method. If you’re not planning quarterly, it’s irresponsible leadership.
- A key to building relationships: be interesting and interested.
- Great leaders always know their numbers. Why? Because at the heart of every successful business is a keen understanding of the unique math equation of inputs and outputs.
- Restraint might be the most undervalued leadership characteristic.
