Today’s CEO Insight is deeply personal.
My friend chose to end his life yesterday. He and his wife were the first couple I married.
I have a short code “YKY” on my phone. It expands to:
“You know you are loved, right?”
I created “YKY” when another friend chose to end his life. I believed that if he knew how much he was loved, he wouldn’t have made the same choice.
I use YKY often to remind people how much they are loved. Why? Because love is the Ultimate Superpower.
I recognize that suicide is their choice.
I recognize mental health isn’t rational.
But, I’m going to own my side. And, to the extent that I can support & articulate my feelings to make an impact, I will.
I know many people are coping with flagging mental health. I see you. 👀 Leading is particularly stressful right now. Protect your mindset by taking great care of yourself. Lean on the morning routine and healthy habits. Know that I’m here for you.
How important is mindset? I keep thinking about his last 30 seconds of self-talk that made pulling the trigger the best available choice. Your words matter. The words you speak to yourself matter most. Be kind.
